Firehall Arts Centre, Vancouver – December 7, 2016 (world premiere)

Albatross is created and directed by German Jauregui in collaboration with Company 605, and performed by Josh Martin and Hilary Maxwell.

In this abstract, emotional narrative, Josh and Hilary experiment with ways of movement while keeping in constant physical contact with one another – the creative ways of partnering become the definitive characteristic of this piece.  A wider dance vocabulary could have expanded the range of expression, nevertheless, the overall progression in the style of partnering work, attention to pacing and structure, and the sensitivity to different theatrical mediums, including the dominant role of sound, gives the sense of a journey completed.

In the end, Josh and Hilary reconnect the audience with the comfort and familiarity of the theatre space before tempting us again to join them in another realm of the beautiful unknown.
