Marion Oliver McCaw Hall, Seattle – March 19, 2016.

For this season’s Director’s Choice, Pacific Northwest Ballet’s artistic director Peter Boal selected works by three choreographers whom he regards among the “truly gifted” of this era: Justin Peck, Alejandro Cerrudo and Paul Gibson.  Incidentally, both Peck and Cerrudo are also dancers in the companies – New York City Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, respectively – for which these works were created.  Gibson, in addition to his choreographic pursuits, is a ballet master at PNB and created his piece for the company.

The program presented:

Rush by Paul Gibson – dramatic silhouettes constructed scenes of Balanchine-inspired neoclassical ballet.

Little Mortal Jump by Alejandro Cerrudo – is delightfully theatrical, and its expressive dance vocabulary whisks us away into the dancers’ world.

Year of the Rabbit by Justin Peck – Peck’s first creation for the New York City Ballet impresses with structural complexity and charm.
